FOOD LARDER

The Ascension Church

Freely you have received, freely give.

At Ascension Church, we believe God has given us a vision of generosity rooted in Matthew 10 v 8 "Freely you have received, freely give."

Led by our beliefs and our conviction that God calls us to live generously, Ascension Church established a Food Larder at the end of 2022 to support those most affected by the cost-of-living crisis.

Since then, in a wonderful testimony to God’s provision, the Larder has continued to run twice a week, made possible by the generous gifts of time, effort, food, and financial support.

The Food Larder is open on:

Tuesdays from 9.30am to 10.30am

and

Thursdays from 12 noon to 1pm

Food Larder FAQs

Q.  Can anyone come to the Food Larder?

A.  Yes. The Food Larder is there for anyone who needs it. You don't have to live in the local area or meet any other criteria.

Q. Do I have to be referred, or do I need any sort of proof of need to be allowed to collect food?

A.  No. The Larder is run on trust. We don't ask questions or check criteria, and we are very grateful for people's honesty in not taking advantage.

Q.  Is food available outside of the usual opening hours?

A. We'd love to be able to do more to help, but the amount of food available is limited, and out of fairness to everyone, we can only provide food during our advertised opening hours on a first-come, first-served basis. It's not a perfect system, but we are pleased to do what we can as best as we can.

Q.  Where does the food come from?
A.  Basically, the food comes from two main sources: We collect supermarket excess food that is still food-safe but going past its expiry date, and we run with the huge amount that is provided by people's generosity.

Q.  Can I donate to the Food Larder?
A.  Yes, please! We are hugely grateful for all the donations that keep the Larder going. Food can be dropped off inside the church doors.
